There is nothing so important to us as parents that our children are safe, happy and healthy. We teach our child not to run on streets, look to both sides while crossing the road, be careful while handling sharp objects, while working with potentially dangerous things like fire or something heavy. When they are toddlers, or even babies, we go down on fours and check out all dangers at that level, removing sharp things, blunting hard corners, masking open electrical sockets, removing glass ornaments from the floor, and what have you!
But we shy away from a very important aspect of keeping our child safe. We behave like the proverbial ostrich, and convince ourselves that the danger will disappear if we do not see or hear it. But it doesn't. It is there, it has been there for all times, and as a society, we often choose to close our minds to its presence.
Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) is commoner than we would like to admit, and more likely to be perpetrated by a known, trusted person than by a stranger. It is likely to happen both to a girl or a boy. And in no case, is the child guilty, although it carries the guilt with it for a lifetime.
A concerned group of bloggers, social commentators, parents, and importantly, victims, have put together a blog which will be platform for discussing many aspects of this problem throughout April 2011, beginning Friday, 1st April 2011. I myself will be posting on the 9th April 2011 links to few books which may be used by parents for educating themselves and their child about this 'Big Bad Wolf', which I hope will be handy in keeping them safe.

Sandhya, I so agree with your view points on how we ensure saftey in various aspects at various stages of life, but do not give the required importance to sexual awareness and the safety aspects of it.
